The perfect pair: our home to Group Home

Apr 26, 2021

Recently, a married couple in their mid 60’s decided to sell their beloved family home after 20 years of creating memories. After raising their now grown up daughters and grandchildren, and countless neighbourhood championships at the local park, the decision had been made.

However, there was still hesitation. They were feeling vulnerable about the finalising of contracts. After all this is a big decision. They were striving to remain focused on a ‘safe passage’ to their next chapter. There was a new dream – to build a home from scratch! They had been attracted by the lifestyle and community feel of a rural town in NSW, a few hours north of Sydney.

The GHA care model is firmly built on the belief that people living with dementia thrive in a home environment. GHA homes are traditional homes, in traditional suburban streets, where 6 to 10 residents live together.

Georgios Makrakis from Group Homes Australia recently said,

Meeting this couple and purchasing their family home was definitely meant to be,” says Georgios, “the vendor told me, that she had bought ‘crazy socks’ for all of the agents and her husband to wear on auction day. After the hammer fell, she asked me ‘to show her my socks’. By chance I was wearing my own crazy pair that day.”

The seller told us after the auction,

“We love what you do, and we know we are leaving our home to the best place possible. Our home to Group Home.
