Dementia Care on the Northern Beaches
Sydney’s Northern Beaches spans from Manly to Palm Beach and boasts a string of coastal neighbourhoods, beaches and villages, nurtured by welcoming communities.
The Group Homes Australia model is firmly built on the belief that people should thrive in a home environment. Traditional and beautiful homes, on traditional suburban streets around Australia, where 6 to 10 residents live together. Residents have 24-hour support including dementia care, palliative and respite care, which is provided by a team of care staff that we call Homemakers.

“This is one of the best models of dementia care in an assisted environment that I’ve seen”

National Ambassador of Dementia Australia
The group home environment
Our group homes have 6-10 residents with 24/7 dedicated care.
Our innovative model of care is an alternative to traditional aged care facilities. Smaller care environments have been proven to increase quality of life, reduce rates of depression and reduce hospitalisation for people living with dementia, making ours some of the best dementia care facilities in Sydney.

Meaningful Engagement
Our Homemakers and Support Team work with each resident and their family to ensure their unique needs are met.

Complex Care Needs
We have various levels of care to accommodate the entire ageing and dementia journey.

Tailored Routines
Unlike residential aged care facilities, we don’t have rigid schedules. Residents wake up in their own time, set their own meal times and have visitors when they want.

Higher Care Ratio
We offer a high care ratio of an average 1:4 team members per resident which is better than most traditional aged care facilities.

Superior Health Outcomes
Research shows that health outcomes in smaller environments are superior to traditional nursing homes.

Feels Like Home
Our homes are warm and open with the familiar atmosphere of a traditional home.

Dementia Care Northern Beaches
At GHA, we fully believe that a dementia diagnosis doesn’t prevent someone from leading a full and rewarding life. For many people, that means staying engaged with the local community. Whether it’s attending events, being involved in support groups, taking day trips or simply going on walks, we can support you to continue those things and stay connected to your local community.
Our Homemakers
Elsewhere, they might be known as carers, but at Group Homes Australia, we make homes. People living in our homes have on-site access to all of the support they need, as determined by their tailored Flourishing Plans. Everybody’s needs are different. While one person may want meals to be cooked and served for them, another may love cooking for themselves. Our Homemakers focus on creating warm, welcoming Northern Beaches homes that focus on cherished moments, not challenges.
Flexible Respite Care
If you are interested in dementia respite care, we have options available. Our flexible cottage respite ensures you and your family members can take a break and get the support you need.
Group Homes Australia offers an inclusive environment with highly trained carers to assist at all hours. Respite gives those caring for someone living with dementia the opportunity to step back, refresh and plan for future support. Plus, it’s a chance to experience a dementia-friendly community that is unlike traditional aged care facilities.
We offer flexible respite for one day up to 5 days. Or, if you’re considering permanent care, we offer a 21-day Flex Trial. You’ll be supported at all times, have the opportunity to participate in a social environment, and see what dementia care can look like when you’re fully supported to live your life with dignity, on your terms.
FAQs For Our Northern Beaches Homes
Where is the best place for someone with dementia in the Northern Beaches?
For people living with dementia on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the best place is often somewhere familiar, calm, and close to loved ones. Local group homes that specialise in dementia care offer a more personal and supportive setting compared to larger aged care facilities. With small resident numbers and consistent care teams, these homes create a safe and homely environment that supports both independence and wellbeing.
At what point should dementia patients go into care?
It may be time to consider care when everyday tasks become too challenging or unsafe. Signs that it’s time to consider care can include wandering, forgetting meals or medication, or increasing stress on family carers. For families on the Northern Beaches, moving into care isn’t a failure — it’s a way to make sure your loved one gets the professional support they need while staying in a familiar community.
What is the best care for elderly people with dementia in the Northern Beaches?
The best care combines professional expertise with a genuine sense of home. In the Northern Beaches, small-scale residential group homes offer tailored dementia support in a warm and familiar setting. With trained staff, calm routines, and meaningful daily activities, this model of care helps residents maintain dignity and connection as the condition progresses.
