Dementia Australia have released a research report named ‘Discrimination and dementia- Enough is enough’. The report has identified that 65% of people surveyed who live with dementia and 58% of those who feel at risk of dementia believe discrimination towards people living with dementia is common or very common.
We asked Founder and Executive Director of Group Homes Australia, Tamar Krebs, about the stigma and discrimination experienced by people living with dementia . . .
“We are trying to change this stigma. We understand that everyone’s dance with dementia will be different, and no one persons journey or symptoms will be the same. Understanding this can help humanise dementia and the people living with it,” says Tamar.
If you’ve met one person with dementia, you’ve met one person with dementia. Every person has unique needs and wants.
